a plate (to row)

ah …
seeing

he made a sound
a dismissive
snort

anyone
can see

look

I put a thing
call it a
plate
in front of you

 you see it
alright

 you know it
can name it

it is there
and you
comprehend it

that’s seeing

imagining
though

 ahhhh

that
is a thing

the object you saw
I imagine
as something else

your plate
is my boat

I can visualise
rowing it
across an ocean
of tea

that
is what I can hold

as a picture
in my mind

 while you
gaze
at your paltry plate

~

Poem #541 from a series of poems drawn from the imagination and collected as: a Bachelard reverie.
