waiting in stillness (for zen)

Ganga was sunken, and the limp leaves
Waited for rain

~

the stillness
of the day
is . . .

a strange thing

the air
is still

the leaves on trees
and plants
is still

blades
of grass
do not move

cloud cover
above
is uniform
and
still

I did not think
the weather map
was suggesting rain
today

yet
it feels
as though the world
is waiting

in stillness

only
a magpie sings
as though
overwhelmed
by the joy
of life

of living

an unstoppable song
warbling
through the stillness
of the day

~

what
comes next

we are the most vaccinated
nation
on earth
(more or less)

jabbed and boosted
to the nth

meanwhile
the plague
slices
through all of our lives
like a heated blade
through butter

we are not
locked down

just too fearful
to leave home

to breathe
in company

we are
still

waiting
for the next
downpouring
of disaster
that may –
or
may not –
soon arrive

meanwhile
we amuse ourselves
with the pretense
that
the eviction
of a single dissenter
from the general disunity
of our continent
will make
a difference

~

still

we are
in the zen
that is stillness

without the benefit
of any
higher plane

  1. Well put Frank. We have no clue what comes next but I’d suggest we begin a little more living because it seems there’s always a new strain conditioning us all to become prisoners. I thought the point was for us all to get vaxed so we could get on with the living. Choices! 🙂
