perspective comes (the morning after)

In a flash of lightning. Then a damp gust
Bringing rain

~

the elements
play

we think
of the plague
as our
catastrophe

put
all our emotional energy

worry

grief

dismay

distress

anger

blame

fear

all
into thoughts
of the scourge

but
never forget
the elements
have been here
long

have ruled
before us

remain

~

the storm
was a brief thing

two hours
of light show
and agitation
raging
through the heavens

the rain –
when it fell –
was all at once

an intense
downpouring
of cosmic angst

a little water
on the ground

a few puddles
forming
in low-lying places

a river
running through

debris hurled
from
the stationary
by water
until the nearest obstacle

a fence

distress calls
as drains
became overwhelmed
by oceans
of moving current

the backyard
roaring water
to match
the pelting
of rain

the roaring of thunder
and the light storm
above

~

the sun
is shining
this morning

the grass basking
in an inner
green

the air
is still

and birds are moving
around the yard
just as though

it is
another day
on the world

just
another day

~
