the wave (the one wave)

When I count, there are only you and I together

~

it is said
amongst mariners
that
out on the sea
there is a wave

one wave

that is the incarnation
of your name
and spirit

a wave that holds
your destiny

if you see it
you are . . .

doomed

destined

required

you must
be
what the wave declares
you to be

the mariners
hold this tale
to be
truth

and so
fate
works its tricks

~

he was
while on the peak
of a swell wave
in his boat

a distant brother wave
rose
at the same time –
equally mountainous –
at the same time

up
out of the bed
of the ocean

and
in the translucent heart
and
the aquamarine
of water and spray
and froth
and turmoil

he spied
the white whale

a glimpse –
no more –
of that giant
majesty

held aloft
by the wave
as though . . .

as though
an afterthought

without substance

his eyes
transfixed
and he could not stop
seeing it

even after
the wave had subsided

after the water
had calmed

there was nothing
else
in the world

and
the world had become
pursuit

even now
he seeks the creature
in his mind

  1. I see this picture as the magnificence of the sea and the majesty of the whale He can either be a friend or foe but can never be forgotten Cleverly written Frank
