still (bellowing)

Sweet Thames, run softly till I end my song,
Sweet Thames, run softly

Silver Creek – after the rain 21/07/2021Silver Creek

there is a beauty
in storms

a beauty
in the aftermath

today presents
as a morning
of sunlight
sparkling
on the frost

the air
rarified
in a post-storm
clarity

I walked –
deliberately –
to the nearby creek

the little stream
that shocked
just a season
or two
ago
when it ran
dry

this little
water
is a constant chatter

a perpetual trickle
of good
mountain
juices
for the land
to savour

a small thing
but
beloved

today
it is possessed

a demon rides
with spurs attached

driving

roaring

cleansing
as it flies
leaping
in spurts
and droplets
high
into the air

then
splash!
white and wide

singing a song
of the mountains

I watch
a single point
in the midst
of the torrent

still

while all around
bellows
and roars
