enough
enough
of wallowing
through clinical irrelevance
the women
survived
(no
they didn’t)
the young man
took his life
copper wire
and a socket
the old fellow
was shocked
back to reality
poor wretch
until his heart gave out
once more
and paraldehyde and exhaustion
finally defeated the fighter
greg
the fighter’s name
was greg
and anna-marie . . .
anna-marie departed town
on a horse headed north
to make subordinate children
in some other
be-doomed
place
her lackeys
all departed
slithered
or crawled
another stable
another broom
another day
to live and die
uncertain
which one
was
which one
or
what day it might be
as the medication
flowed
some tablets
some
scotch
somewhere to hide
through long nights
alone
at the end of one variation
on an age
of innocence
isn’t that something
we all need
in difficult times

Whew! This is a dark piece. At least it is for me. Dark and compelling .Travel to a be-doomed place. On that horse traveling north. Terrific poem Frank.

Cheers Anne, thank you. Yes this piece ends a section and the lead up to it has been pretty grim. In fact the whole work is pretty grim, which might doom it in the end. No matter. It is what it wants to be, and I’ll just try to maintain a tenuous guidance to keep a narrative line at work.
(Some hope!) LOL
