george
where are you
now
our peace
is all battles
though the 1984
of bad dream
has fallen
a long way behind us
there are observers
surveilling me
nothing of mine
is secret
or
secure
it is known
when I went out
of my house
how many steps
I took
monthly
a summary is compiled
of all my movements
and who
I met
brushed past
with a deft touch
of elbows
conveying
my messages
my phone knows
my face
except
when I am wearing
a mask
my mandated
mask
to ensure I rebreathe
all doctrine
and cant
and my own
bio-air
in case I
am infectious
while actually
I feel more
of the leprous
than I do
the contagious
and george
I believe that you
saw it all
except
not enough
for
there was more
there is more
always more
because
there can never be
enough
I better stop this
I believe
I have just been
observed
for
my computer
shone white
through a pinhole
that is really
a camera
I am recorded
possibly catalogued
perhaps
soon
put away
for certain
away
if I step outside
my door

I came across a 1949 review of 1984. Wow.

and judged and found wanting, I suspect.
I’ve always wondered why the bother, but every penny extracted makes it worthwhile, I suppose.

It’s enough to guilt you into it. Exercise, that is.

Ironic, isn’t it, that we actually invited Big Brother into our homes.

Subtle control, and deletion of routine activity that can bring happiness. Creation of dependence on the manufactured image – George saw it all, too clearly.

Have you read his “Politics of the English Language”? It also rings true today.

I haven’t read Orwell for many years now. Homage to Catalonia e=was a more powerful force for me that 1984. Animal Farm was very confronting, as well.

I haven’t read Homage to Catalonia. I’ll need to rectify that.
