of day and of rising (to a song)

Inspired by the phrase ‘the song of me rising from bed and meeting the sun’ taken from ‘Song of Myself (Leaves of Grass)’ by Walt Whitman.

This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project

it is a soundless
song

sung by
sensation

sung
by touch

I hear it
before
I open up my eyes

I hear it
through an alteration
in my awareness

I hear it call me
awake
awake

it is time
to rise

and I find
my feet
have migrated
to the floor
below

suddenly
I am standing
called
to face the window

called to sight the filtered day
streaming in
through veiled curtains

I pull them aside
the song
grows louder now

inside
I am singing
meet the sun

I
meet the sun

this song
of day
