legislated (pride)

From the news: Ending Medevac for incarcerated refugees

there is pride
to be had

of a sort

of a kind

there is pride to be had
from riding
high

yes there is

and pride
to be had
by
the bucket
by the gallon

in litres

when some other
weeps

in litres
my friends

I need to pause
take a breath
the pride
that I feel
falls
in litres

and gallons

and buckets

there is pride to be had
from standing

a foot
on the crop

standing

one is up

one is down

one is proud
one

is broken

.
.
.

this country

my country

I hardly know
if I stand
where to place
my large feet

in
this country

wherever I walk
one is up

one
is down

that’s the law

and I weep
into a bucket

a one gallon bucket

and a one litre
bucket
of tears

and

my pride

  1. What might be considered a crime is now legal. The ayes have it. My only hope is that the Government will still allow people in for treatment if only to be able to say “See, we didn’t need medevac because the system we introduced previously was not broken.” Spin matters. People’s lives unfortunately do not.

  2. Thank you for this post! It summed up my emotions regarding the recent news perfectly. I have been a vocal opposition to Australia’s refugee policy and have recently published an article on my blog about Australia’s refugee failure. If you have time, it would be great if you could check out my post, as I would be really interested to hear your thoughts! Thanks 🙂
