baylis street (in a rush)

Inspired by the phrase ‘The delight alone or in the rush of the streets’ taken from ‘Song of Myself (Leaves of Grass)’ by Walt Whitman.

This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project

I wander
streets

as though
I have never wandered
before

these pavements
have the feeling
of new
to my feet

treading lightly
with a buoyancy
of delight
that is itself
a rush of sensation

for new streets
are like . . .

in a small way
are like
new planets
where even the atmosphere
must be learned
before the commencement
of true breathing

I could dance
or skip
heels clicking in the air

for the joy
of the new

on these streets I am
in a way
reborn
