Inspired by the phrase ‘The play of shine and shade on the trees as the supple boughs wag’ taken from ‘Song of Myself (Leaves of Grass)’ by Walt Whitman. This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project |
by day I watch
the play of shine
and shade
oak tree twins
that dominate my seasons
how tall is tall
how wide
enough
to be a new atmosphere
when standing
beneath
the leaves
enough to be called home
by the trillers
and warblers
that fill each day
enough
and supple
to reach
to reach toward
the sky
supple boughs and branches
wag
swaying to a song
sung in gentled whispers
by
the benevolence
the breeze
they are
the instrument
for all the day
to play
