Inspired by the phrase ‘The sound of the belch’d words of my voice loos’d to the eddies
of the wind
‘ taken from ‘Song of Myself (Leaves of Grass)’ by Walt Whitman. This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project |
so I stand
to speak
I know that you
can hear me
I know the way my voice
the gout of belching words I utter
and let loose
upon the winds
affects you
fails
to affect you
but
here I stand
and I
will speak
again
I will tell you
of what I know
of what I believe
I will tell
what is
the truth
of the matter
I will shout
at you
the truth
of the matter
stamp my feet
until I fear
(I hope)
the earth
the very earth
will tremble beneath you
but you
ha
you
I know
are stoppered
aurally insulated
to filter out
the lesser words
the undesirable
the provocative
and yet
I belch at you
for my world
the world that I
so love
the only world
that I can ever know
is burning to ash
in my mouth
released to float
as flecks of grey
blown
in lazy swirling eddies
by your winds

So powerful, Frank, and so expressive of the helplessness so many of us feel from /not being heard/. 😦

That’s how it felt to me, too.
I was just thinking of you, Andrea. I’m going to be doping some readings/appearances in Melbourne next week – Belgrave, Healesville (and Glen Waverly) on different days. Looks like I might need to spend extra night/nights in Melbourne. Could be an opportunity for a cuppa?

Hey! Welcome to the Big Smoke. 😀 Kidding. Of course we can have a cuppa, might even stretch to a slice of cake. Any chance you can get out to Warrandyte? I’m still doing volunteering once a week but I’m flexible in when I work so it’s up to you. 🙂

Not sure, Andrea. In the next day or so I have to organise my accommodation for Friday night (22nd Nov) with a show the next day. Will have a better idea after that.

I do hope you don’t feel you are wasting your belches, Frank.

I rather think I might be, Derrick. But even a little noise sometimes reverberates unexpectedly.
