Inspired by the phrase ‘And indeed there will be time’ taken from ‘The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock’ by T. S. Eliot. This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project |
though the light
is more
of evening
than the harsher hues
of midday
still
it remains
still I
can see
and though
the darkness
is less
a stranger
than once it was
well
that’s nothing
not really
there will be time
left
for you and I
to speak
time left to share
a body-shake
of laughter
though
we end up weeping
holding each other
weeping
just a little for what’s been
but still
we both know
there is a lifetime
in a look
eternity
in a silence
lasting just as long
as we need
we’ve said it all
many times
and there is no joy
in being mundane
now
there will be time
for that
no shortage
after
we did some things
you and I
we did those things
didn’t we
I would not want
to do them
again
but there is pleasure
in having time left
to remember
do you
recall
I know
that you do
and you
you
know
now
that I do
too

This promotes tender memories. “time left to share
a body-shake
of laughter
though
we end up weeping” is marvellous.

Thank you, Derrick. It took me to its own place. A very tender place, as you say.
