a tortoise (that is new)

Inspired by the phrase ‘Let fall upon its back’ taken from ‘The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock’ by T. S. Eliot.
This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project

before our approaching footsteps
love
like a tortoise
discomposed
has fallen
upon its own back

legs waving
helpless and unknowing
as we approach

each of us
from our own path
and place

neither knowing
until

until

and then
at once there
it begins
its movement

fresh breeze
to
typhoon

and the colours
whirl

and I
do not live
on this planet
any longer

I exist
in some other place

some other
plane

and you are
an always was
for me

an is

nothing remains
that is not
new

I hold my breath
and spin
around myself

you
a stunned soul
the heart of my pivot

an old tortoise
I
wave my arms
my legs

helpless

I
we
approach

isn’t that
the question
