and again (silver heart)

Inspired by the phrase ‘White heart-flame of polished silver’, from the poem ‘Madonna of the Evening Flowers’ written by Amy Lowell.

This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project

I hear
the song

I have heard it now

your lustred hair
has changed a shade
or two
copper shine
to this smooth
and polished

but not the song

your voice
is young
and again

I hear it
as a young man hears

for that
is how
it comes to me

a white purity
of sound
that goes straight to
my heart

right to
where I feel
these things

and I know
even though I
am age clumsy

and age foolish

even though I am
age blind
to what surrounds me
in these hasting times

when I hear you
that song
that we both know

I am
a youth

a youth

are the silvered heart
of me

you always were
