Inspired by the phrase ‘White heart-flame of polished silver’, from the poem ‘Madonna of the Evening Flowers’ written by Amy Lowell. This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project |
I hear
the song
I have heard it now
almost
forever
your lustred hair
has changed a shade
or two
from
copper shine
to this smooth
and polished
silver
but not the song
your voice
is young
still
and again
I hear it
as a young man hears
for that
is how
it comes to me
a white purity
of sound
that goes straight to
my heart
right to
where I feel
these things
and I know
that
even though I
am age clumsy
and age foolish
even though I am
age blind
to what surrounds me
in these hasting times
when I hear you
sing
that song
that we both know
I am
a youth
only
a youth
again
you
are the silvered heart
of me
you always were
then
and
again
