(PAD #054) ode (to my pen)

and I wonder
what it is
about you
that I love

is it the way
you know
what I am
thinking

the expression
you give
to each thought
though
I don’t speak it
out loud

somehow
somehow
you catch each wave
that I am surfing on

next thing I know
there are words
of me
written plain
upon the paper

next thing I know
I am reading me
like I
was thinking me
such a short moment
ago

what am I
without your ink
spilled
on the page

what good
is a thought
if I
just think it

here
for a moment
in my head
then
gone

fading wings
into
the distance

and me
just a man
and nothing more
and nothing
greater

sometimes
I clutch you
fiercely
like life
depends on what flows next

and maybe
it does

maybe
mine does
so stay around

stay dark
and black
and ready

I think
I may be
thinking

thinking
again
