un-alone (au revoir)

Inspired by the phrase ‘The muttering retreats’ taken from ‘The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock’ by T. S. Eliot.
This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project

and so
the day unfolds
inside my head

the voices
at their ease
at last

the muttering
retreats

and I
am left alone

brief moments
falling like a firm blow
of friendly solitude

a sojourn
away
from the perilous

a moment
of
myself

solitaire

and I recall
so briefly
I recall
the man I was
when it was only
you and I

I recall
but truly
that is a once

a
was

and now I am
encumbered
by myself

alas
I guess
my moment
is past

the voices surge
once more

so long
old friend

my dearest
dear

until
I surface
from the depths of me
again
