whiteface (and rhyme)

Inspired by the phrase ‘To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet’ taken from ‘The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock’ by T. S. Eliot.
This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project

mirror you
and mirror
me

take the paste
and slather

make a moue
amid
the lather

smooth it down
pat-a-cake
slap it slip
into
a face-like shape

mould
your visage
as I do
mine

meet my true face
first grin
in line

then turn around
your courage built
to meet
the faces
rushing
rushing
on
the street

hold your head
up
you are not alone

I’ll hold
my head up
two as one

and step in time
your step
with mine

we mime we mime
two clowns
silently
in rhyme
