soft warnings

Inspired by the phrase ‘I, now thirty-seven years old in perfect health begin’ taken from ‘Song of Myself (Leaves of Grass)’ by Walt Whitman.

This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project

I
once thirty seven years
and perfect health

was a man

such a man

I was
everything
and everything
was begun

by me

for me

because
of who and what
I was

and I thought myself
so fine

thought myself
so very fine

and who could believe
in things
that would not
fall
at my feet

thirty seven
once
I was

everything of me
begun

who could see
and who
could say

that shimmer
was just
a mirage

a life
a shimmer

beliefs
a mirage

I look about
at thirty seven now
I look for
thirty six

to whisper
warnings

I whisper
my thirty six
soft warnings
