Inspired by the phrase ‘All day long I have been working’, from the poem ‘Madonna of the Evening Flowers’ written by Amy Lowell. This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project |
all the day
I
am working
the toil required
to keep warm
in the fire
the table
well laden
I do
what I must
to ensure
all is
what it must be
yet
through each of those hours
I dream
inhabit
desire
and a yearning
to be home
to be with you
to be one
with my own spaces and places
well known
defined
all the day long
I’ve been
working as I know I must do
but
all the day long
too
I have nurtured
my heart
kept a piece
one small piece of it
free
and untrammeled
by need
mundane requirement
I have placed it
in my mind
right there
beside you
our backs
warmed together
by fire

I had a glance back when i was setting this link up today and, apart from needing to do a bit of editing, I quite enjoyed them, as well.
It’s amazing how quickly I seem to experience ‘distance’ from the writing of the pieces, not so long ago, to being able to read as a relative stranger.
Anyway, Peggy, you know I’m delighted that you’re enjoying them.
BTW I’ve been meeting with a few writer or reader groups and have very much enjoyed being interrogated by folk who have read a book of mine, or who are interested in picking apart technique and approach. Wonderful!
There’ll be a day when I get up your way and it would be a huge pleasure to meet with your group if that can happen.
Just giving you advance notice! LOL
