the day (by the bank by the wood) does what it may wish

Inspired by the phrase ‘I will go to the bank by the wood’ taken from ‘Song of Myself (Leaves of Grass)’ by Walt Whitman.

This now comprises a part of The Linkages Project

and is it
not
at times
such as these

such trying times
as these
that the need
to be
emerges

times
like these
for self
to finally
fully
emerge

on a day of depths
and darkness
before the light
I will go
by the bank

by the wood

quite naked

undisguised
as I am
myself

for
who should I be
on a day
in a time like this

how else
can I tell
if this is really
me

strip my clothes
down to the flesh

beyond

strip myself
until a fleeting glimpse
that is
my spirit

this . . .

this will be
a day
so like
unlike
any other

and I
will stand still
while it does
what it needs to
do

does
to me
whatever
it may wish
