Ypres (41): an entrance (to irony)

The entrance to the prison at Ypres, which was used as a forward dressing station by the 9th Australian Field Ambulance during the Third Battle of Ypres. https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C1015610

there’s irony
here
in this bloody war

churches are the first
to go
in the name
of god

and people must pray
to remnants
in mortar

here we are
welcomed
by the prison gate

seems it could not
be destroyed
no matter
how they tried

a little rest
here
a little repair

then back again

carry the prison
in your mind

in your ironic mind
