a longing (to flutter)

and does
the flame
beyond the glass
above the oil
atop the wick
ever long
for freedom

it burns
as it must burn
yielding light
and climbing
within its confines

does it never
wonder
with naked desire

of
how it might feel
to flutter
in the caresses
the tender touch
of a gentle
untrammeled breeze

oh
to waver

to make
shadows

oh
to burn high
like riding
on air

and to dance
as only flame can dance

ta-ta
ta
ta-ta-ta

I wonder
does that flame
there
ever wish
for the flutter

the moment of dare
that would skate
the edge of extinction

the flame
behind the glass
above the oil
atop the wick
burns bright

and
it burns steady
