Shapley’s Grave #1
the ambulance
is
one man short
there’s nothing
to be done
about that
harry
won’t be serving
anymore
he’s at his peace
at least
I suppose that’s so
more for him
than us
for sure
there’s no point
though
in being maudlin
someone
must take up
the stretcher
he bore
it’s either
you
or me
so come
let’s toss the pennies

Shapley’s Grave #2
~
untold horrors the soldiers bear, a million moments like these they can never forget

Hélène, Thank you. They make demands of me that I don’t want to resist.

They just had to get on with it – or they’d be shot

Yes, you’re quite right of course, Derrick.
I was taken to see the caption for the picture (where I found it) with an Ambulance Brigade reference. Wasn’t expecting it.
