#05: the song of a hospital swallow

One more from the recent hospital set (no typos, hopefully)

~~~~~~~
if they see me
keep my food
down
they might let me
fly away
.
.
.
I swallow
all my hopes
in toasted
mouthfuls
my wings
and I
are craving
the open air
and you
the idea I hold
of home
it is a place
within my heart
my head
but
ideas…
an idea
is just
ephemera
… … …emera
an echo
fainting across the miles between
the cardboard
of toast
and the place you are
.
.
.
I am keeping
down
my food
swallowing
with conviction
if I say …
if they see
I am keeping it
all inside
they could let me
fly
.
.
.
I am contemplating
time
feel I’ve aged
one whole
extra life
what will I be
when you see me
thin skin
laid
on bone
a small life
on less available
borrowed time
.
.
.
I am keeping down
food
today
today
today
I will fly
away
