#06: the new berth

the big guy
in One

I don’t envy you
your neighbour

he snorts and he groans
in the middle
of the night

it’s all the drugs
inside him”

my new friends’ telephone

and he shouts
his answers

takes out
a hearing aid
and chuckles
at a joke
I cannot hear

he blasts his thoughts
across the nearest suburb

and I look
around this
my brand new berth

think about
the night ahead

get on the phone
in a quiet voice
with a request
for ear plugs

  1. Hospitals can be the noisiest places on earth! What I love is when they wake you up to give you your sleeping pill. Do they still do that? It’s been 18 years since I was in a hospital overnight.

  2. I like Teds thought, to use it as inspiration. My last stay I found blogging through a friend. Good luck, I hope you are home soon. One thing I found, the night nurses are the very best.
