a futility of power

into the water

bubbles rise
as a crowd
forming into a bubble-balloon

pop-pop-pop

a kind of anguish
released into the air

the steam

hiss-s-s

an angry threat
uttered into the midst
of a forced taming

close inspection
in mid-air

a to-and-fro
of turning
to better see

assess

then
the forge
again

the anger grows
the anger glows

the resistance
hugs itself
into a yellow-orange-red
possessive glower

that eye-lessly
identifies
a fee

in degrees of burn
and temperature

the anvil

clang

the hammer blow

sparks
rising

clang

the hammer blow

sparks flying

s-s-s-s

the sizzle of a moment
is a moist bead
of fallen sweat

clang

the sullen sound
torn
blow by blow
away from the nurturing
of power
brooking no song
but the blunt
of an echo

into the water

hiss-s-s-s

bubbles
are released
into the air
