on Bogong

up on Bogong
breezes blow

to take away
the taste
of a day
with too much
and too much

after all the time
this mountain
has weathered
there is no place
for such excesses

mere weather

that is all
it is

up on Bogong
the tufty grass
runs across the plateau
in tussocks

under the sky

as it has always

and all the sky
is a blue
gazing down
on the top
of the high plain

up on Bogong
you are walking

and my heart
is a pace

just one

over your shoulder

keeping one eye
on your path
one eye up

on Bogong
