the names
of the sisters
escape me
but
seven
they are
seven
the weave
of their hair
laid
across my face
hides them
from my view
clouds
my thinking
except …
but …
I
should not
be here
so late
alone at night
so far from
that home of mine
why am I here
the names
of the sisters
escape me
but I like
yes
I think that I really like
Merope
the best

There is a culture in South America that believes it is descended from the Pleiades. They use them in their folk art and even knew there were seven stars long before a telescope was developed that let men see it. Fascinating.

Not only an excellent poem, but having Googled “merope” I now know about the seven pleiades. The star cluster is an old friend, but I never looked up the myths behind the name.

I just love the NASA pics, Kaz. They are so easy to find inspiration from/with.

I very much like the situation of the onlooker, alone and faraway; perhaps you can find deep space here on earth, and then the comfort in a single star, like a single memory. A very relatable piece, Frank.
