fitness to change

Poem #249 from a series of poems drawn from the imagination and collected as: a Bachelard reverie.

Back to Bachelard and me – Introduction

fitness for my function
I swim
with webbed feet
I swim
with webbed hands

I swim
as though to swim
is what I’m for

fitness
for my function
I hunt
with spotted skin
I hunt
with striped skin

I hunt as though
to hunt
is what I
am disguised for

fitness for my function
I fly
with widespread wings
I fly
with pinioned wings

I fly
as though to fly
above
is what I’m for

fitness
for my function
I change
to match my mood
I change
to meet my need

I change
as though to change
itself
is what I’m for
fitness
my function
is what
I am here for
