drawing an idea

Poem #222 from a series of poems drawn from the imagination and collected as: a Bachelard reverie.

Back to Bachelard and me – Introduction

it started
as a sketch

the artist
pencil in hand
began with a few lines
on the white paper
that almost shone
in pristine beauty

an invitation
to convert dream
idea
image

into some semblance
via an alchemy
on the page

rapidly
the picture evolved

a broad shape

some detail

attire

face

feet

attitude

the idea thinned
became
opaque
and gradually began
to vanish

the sketch grew
became sharper
developed texture
depth

at last
the few remaining lines
shaded over
in graphite strokes

until
picture complete
the pencil fell to the ground
breaking the remaining lead
from its tip

while the artist
shaded in greys
strolled beyond
the pristine edge
of the paper
and shrank
step by step
into perspective

~

the white paper
almost shone
in a snow-white gleam
of beauty

a pencil
sharp and new
rested on the easel

waiting
patient
for an artist
and an idea

  1. I loved it Frank!
You say you only sketch on occasion but you have described it beautifully.
would you mind if I shared this on my facebook?
Its poetry month and I have many artist friends. I would love for them to read it.
