the scale-feather concept

Poem #218 from a series of poems drawn from the imagination and collected as: a Bachelard reverie.

Back to Bachelard and me – Introduction

along the line
descending vertical
every fish
must swim

it is an idea
a requirement
that is immutable

along the line
horizontal
intersecting
every bird
must fly

it is an idea
a requirement
evident
without speaking it

at the collision point

oh woe

oh me

what a mess
of scales
and feathers

but the need exists
and the law
exists
and the fish
must fly
the bird
must swim
it’s a concept
you see
some kind
of big idea

and away they go
almost
as they should
but with roles reversed
they are only
somewhat
scaled
and a little
feathered

  1. I don’t know why but I have just gone searching in my dvd library and YES found it. The three times I read this poem a very distinctive voice was actually reading it and it was the voice of Christopher Walken.
Now read it again with him in mind. Really works.
forgive me Frank I have been indoors all day :).
