they came in large numbers
explorers and foragers
searchers for shelter
and sustenance
dead
all dead
sprawled and contorted
and dead
two days later
a lone investigator
is looking
picking over the debris
prodding at the bodies
forensically sifting the air
for a cause
and a perpetrator
I am ready to confess
I will reveal all
conceal nothing
I killed them
each and every one
in cold blood
I have no time for ants
and their unsolicited reminders
of unwashed dishes
and benches that I have not wiped clean
for too long
