elm husks fleeing

elm hops 1

the husks of spring
are fleeing
just ahead
as the wind blows

they’re trying madly
to evade it

to crash-land
in a heap
of their fellow hops

in small seas
that ripple
beneath
the blown breath

of storm-before-summer
of thunder-in-a-blast-of-hail
of turbulent-black-that-falls-
in-the-middle-of-the-day

in the middle
of the day

husks flee the wind
