I Know

When I was just a little boy, I knew.
When I was just a very little boy I knew.
Oh when I was nothin more than a baby child,
crawling with my hands, running wild,
when I was nothin but a baby child, I knew.

When I was just a gangling youth, I knew.
When I was just an awkward, youth, I knew.
Oh, when I was nothin but a stripling lad,
gazing at the moon, going to the bad,
when I was nothin but a stripling lad, I knew.

When I grew up, an upstanding man, I knew.
When I grew up as a fine-standing man, I knew.
Oh, when I wore the badge of a suit, tie and hat,
taking on the world, with this and with that,
when I wore the badge of a suit, tie and hat, I knew.

Right through my life, from the early days, I’ve known.
Right through my life from the very early days, I’ve known.
Oh, right from the time I took my first breath,
breathing so hard, till there wasn’t any left,
right from the time I first took my breath, I’ve known.

Tomorrow could be anything to me, I know.
Tomorrow could be almost anything to me, I know.
Oh, who can tell if the day after this,
might lead to disaster, or shine sweet bliss?
No-one can tell about the day after this, but I know.

I know.
