12 months, 400 poems: nova today

A short note before today’s poem.

Today marks 12 months completed since I began writing ‘A Poem a Day’, 400 poems ago with a little fire dance poem.

I originally intended to aim for a month, but so enjoyed the discipline of writing and the feedback I received from readers that I pushed on (and on). It feels amazing to have come so far while keeping to what I think (and hope) has been a good standard of writing.

My aim at the moment is to push on until the end of the calendar year so I have a set running from 1st January to 31st December, but I find I’m running out of puff a little bit and may not get that far.

We shall see!

In the meantime, Spring is in the air. Thank you for reading.

nova today

bloss

the first plum white
is a starburst
nova
on the tree

every branch
is a suspense
of waiting
for the right sun
on
the right day

for the right buzz
of the right bee
nova
waiting

some
can stand no more
no more
no more waiting

and the plum tree
is star bursts

is nova
today

    • Thanks Anne. I intend to keep posting at a fairly high rate, but I’m not sure how well I can keep up the ‘post a day’ discipline of producing new poems. I’ve noticed myself getting a little ragged in that department. I’ll do my best,

I still have a theme-related series or two that I want to post that I’m actually excited about putting online. Soon.

    • I will Tom, thank you. I’m still raiding the archive for the old material , and have more new work to post. It’s just the task of writing a new daily post especially for the blog that is making me weary. Having said that, it will all probably proceed as normal till the end of the year. We’ll see.

    • You’re an inspiration Derrick. Your post is always very fresh and filled with the life you live and that surrounds you. I’m astonished to have managed so much verse consecutively. I’d never done more than a month previously and that had exhausted me.

Knowing there are folk willing to read and take an interest is a major incentive.

      Thanks again.
