distance across ford street

Poem #42 from Small Town Kid

Back to Small Town Kid – Introduction

the dolphin café is the ideal spot
to watch the shadow
slipping across ford street

a journey wide enough
to last you
all your life

there’s only pinball
and cigarettes
and under-age
six-pack saturdays

from the watchers
riffling curtains
at every window

and there’s cheating
with cunning stealth
the best efforts
of the law

it’s slow breathing
slow walking
slow living
to last forever

or just until the shadow
makes the other side
of ford street
