returned to the sun

a flame
runs
over the log
consumes the bark
chars the wood
remembers
what once stood tall

leaf and branch
the sky
the air

bird in boughs

bud burst

memories given up
with a crackle
and a sigh
to dance a last time
reminiscent
of the wind
eaten
by the fire

returned
still hot
to the sun
