sniffing the cusp of Spring

sniffing the cusp of Spring
and the smell I smell
is the green of grass
the blue of the hills
and the sundry orange
of gazanias
on roadside verges

meadow daisy white and the yellow
lush
that is new clover

  1. Hi Frank (it’s me, Pat) – trying out a new/different log in to see if I can’t stop the SPAM action …. anyhow, this is a great piece – I love the tightness but the sense of the smell of the colours, just by virtue of naming them in reference – and doesn’t clover have the best smell? That ending really brought it home for me – after all, it’s spring here, and slow to winter melt and all, but there are beginning signs of life anew … so this just brightened my day reading this. 🙂

    Cheers!
