a fine cabinetry

it was the work
of a craftsman
a cabinet maker

the construction
not of the cabinet
but its drawer

fine jointed

a neat alignment
of dovetails
tight fitted

the grain treated
to emphasize natural

with shine
and a warm glow

concealed in the grain
a false section
accessible only by
or by feel

to accommodate

this drawer
is a smooth glider
and responsive

over the years
it has grown
from desk size
to deep filing cabinet

both compartments
so much bigger

but the false place
the secret holder
that is now
a long way
