hot one

hottest day
only the yellow
of a buttercup
is holding steady

everything else
is wilted
looking about ready
to die

the sun’s no friend
he’s set his mind
to burning

I’d try to look him in the eye
but I think
that he would leave me
blind

the shade
beneath the oak tree
is a world
in a cocoon

the temperature in there
is set to
ahhh

the lake
is not so far away
a little later
I think I’ll go in

talk to the sun
in bubbles
from underwater

a small breeze
ruffles leaves
up high

if it should decide
to visit
a little lower

maybe

maybe
we’ll survive
to the end
of the day

oooh now that is delicious and unexpected – great great stanza – and it really makes the poem – love the placement and how this whole piece unfolds – well done Frank! 😀
