reek assessment

Flat Rock road
is on fire

I saw it
on the news

forty acres
of grass
forty acres
of flame

sky full of clouds
sky full of smoke

the one
is wet and grey
the other
dirty brown
and billowed

a helicopter landed
whocka-wock
behind the fence
we all climbed
on molded plastic
outside chairs

craned our necks
to take look

first fire
of January
first
of the year

here it comes
the season
of assessing the quality
of grey
for the brown reek
of smoke
