like summer (to me)

the first cicada
flew today

I can hear it playing

a possum leapt
right across my head
to feed in the loquat tree

a parrot
in his finery
shining green
and blue and red

landed soft
amid a branch
of red cherries
and that feels
like summer
to me

a koala is grunting
in a tree
across the street

and the fox
with her cubs
play on a lawn
and that feels
pretty much
like summer
to me
