Needing Substitution

quitting smoking
is like the ending of a love affair

I have nowhere to place restless hands
and there seems little point in getting a cup of coffee
or taking my usual short walk for a stretch and a break

there is an edge to my mood
and a need that I was previously unaware of

I miss the quick gratification
and I badly need someone to inhale
as a substitute
