wrongness and sun

resilient1

Resilient by Leanne Murphy, 2016

we stopped to look
early in our morning
almost before
we’d properly opened our peepers
and saw the sun rise

liquid orange
molten heat

it’s the smoke
of course

all too soon
we’re burning again

it seems moments
since the last fires
but
again we are stopped
by the sight
of the sun

to watch it shimmer
through the haze blanket
is to wonder
about the rightness
of things
