for a magpie

A Poem a Day in October 2016: #13

that beak is sharp already

there’s no need
to keep on honing

preen it through your feathers

black and white
in monochrome

go stalking with a sharp spear

those worms
are yours alone

then magpie
sing me a fine song
let’s sing it in duet
you start and I
will sing right along
together better yet

singing magpie

sharpened beak

preening feathers

worms to feast

just for a magpie
