factual oblivion

fact:

the government had a meeting today
to discuss the water crisis

~

fact:

the head of the rivers commission said

this drought is the worst
in a thousand years

~

fact:

the prime minister said

well
no one can know that for sure

~

fact:

the prime minister said

that wasn’t meant literally
it was just an expression

~

fact:

the prime minister said

yes
we know it’s serious
but it’s not as bad as that

~

fact:

the dams in the rivers system
are down
to eighteen per cent

some are less than that

~

fact:

one hundred massive ice bergs
are drifting north

leaving antarctica behind them

~

this may not be the worst
in a thousand years

who am I
to doubt the pm
after all

but there are some out there
not waiting
to find out for sure

they’re diving in
decisively
not drifting
towards oblivion

like the rest of us
