lagoon #4

strange sight

the fish are easily visible now
I can see their shapes below the water
they are surfacing all the time
as well

their great gulping mouths
are breaching the water
at regular intervals

I have a feeling
they might be drowning
in a perverse kind of way

because I seem to recall reading
that the stillness of the water
and the fact that it is shrinking
at such a rate
means there’s not enough oxygen
to support fish life

that’s why they break into the air

don’t know if that’s true
sounds dodgy
there it goes again
