lagoon #1

the lagoon is growing smaller

it is noticeable now

Spring has progressed
and there have been no more
than a few meager points of rain
right through October

we walked a different way today
when we let Leelu choose the path
we always go cross country
and this time
we have cut across the western face

I stopped us
thought I saw a movement
that might have been a fish

I hadn’t thought there might be fish
in a lagoon off the Broken River
but the ripples and the shadow
suggest life in unsuspected places
