today the time

A Poem a Day in September #19

the cherry trees
are swollen at the bud
some daffodils
have passed along the whisper

it’s time to flower soon

though the rain outside
is still laced in sleet
and the clouds brood
as they tack to beat
across a blustery sky
that continues its dance
with the chill winds
of winter

it is time

the magpie woke me
with a song this morning
it was early but daylight
was already in the kitchen
readying the aroma
of fresh coffee

the magpie knew
he carolled

it’s time
